WordPress FAIL

WordPress needs to do something about their image uploading. It only works at certain times of day (night, actually).

I’ve tried several times now to upload some never-before-seen photos, and all I get is FAIL.

Come on, WordPress- get your shit together. And stop adding bullshit links to my posts.

I have the same problem. The workaround is to upload the pic using the new popup tool, but don’t insert from there. Instead, look for the pic by clicking on the Media Center tab, click Show, copy the URL, and then go to your draft post and use the URL to insert the pic just like a link to a pic on another site.

    That works for me, anyway.

Also, you can get rid of the bullshit links by going to Dashboard/Design/Extras and clicking the box that lets you hide them.

In my first comment, I should have said “Media Library” tab.

    Michael, thanks for the tips.

Am I welcome back at IB?

Am I welcome back at IB?

Huh? What made you think you were not?

You can shoot me an email at michael475369-comments@yahoo.com if you prefer. I really don’t know what you are talking about, but I fear my often acerbic sense of humor may have backfired.

Another possibility is that you got blocked by the Akismet spam filter and thought you were banned. Akismet can get too zealous and block legitimate comments occasionally, for no discernible reason. This has happened to many IB regulars, including me on several occasions. If this happens again, let me know in a subsequent comment or by email. I can despam the comment, and Akismet is supposed to “learn” from this that your IP address is OK.

I follow Out West on the WordPress “Blog Surfer” feature, by the way. Your pictures a always a treat.

    Here’s another tip for you:

Your recent pics look undersized in the post. I can see you are using compressed files from your original shot (good idea), but you still have enough resolution to make them bigger. So try this — when you insert the pic’s URL into the inserter thingy, tab out of that field to the Title field and wait a few seconds. You should see the Width and Height field fill in. Set the Width field to 425 and leave the Height field blank. Insert the pic and it fill the space between the margins of your post and look great.

OK, I just went and looked. By “Title” field I actually meant the box for Image Description. The Width field is the first of the two boxes to the right of Dimensions. Don’t tab into it until the numbers fill in. This might take a few seconds.

And, when I said leave the Height field blank, I mean you have to delete the value that was automatically inserted.
